Banksian House Suite - RAAF

Manapan was involved in creating a suite of custom pieces for a special heritage listed building Banksian House. Delivered to Darwin by our team, the collection of ‘Crocodile’ pieces are now located in this pre WWII house which was the Commanding Officers residence of RAAF Base Darwin. This house has now been extensively restored and converted into a visiting dignitaries accommodation and VIP reception area.

Originally designed by famed NT architect B.C.G Burnett and located in RAAF Darwin’s historic Housing Precinct, the refurbishment was a balancing act between preserving the original architectural integrity and appeal of the building while providing a modern, useable accommodation facility for the Australian Defence Force. This house still has damaged areas from the Japanese attacks on Darwin. The refurbishment of the heritage-listed Banksian House has reinforced the building’s importance as a significant example of early-Darwin tropical residential architecture. It was an honour for Manapan to be involved in a project of such significance to the Northern Territory’s recent history.
